Jessica L. Richert
Of Counsel Attorney
A five-year-old’s desire to be Judge Wapner (People’s Court) when she grew up has developed into a passion for the law. Jessica received her bachelor’s degree in Criminology from the University of South Florida in 2006.
In 2013, Jessica and her son started school together: Jessica began her legal education at Barry University School of Law, and her son began preschool.
While participating in Barry’s Juvenile Defense Clinic, Jessica represented juvenile clients against criminal charges and co-authored a successful appeal to the Fifth District Court of Appeal of Florida. Additionally, her article, “Victims with Responsibilities: Requiring Male Victims of Statutory Rape to Pay Child Support with No Escape,” was selected for publication in Barry’s Child and Family Law Journal (under Jessica Persaud). Jessica received her Juris Doctor from Barry University School of Law in 2016, graduating in the top 5% of her class.
Since receiving her license to practice law in Florida in 2016, Jessica has focused her career on family law. She has represented individuals in divorce, custody, child support, and other family matters in Florida and Indiana, where she has been licensed to practice since 2018.
Jessica is a registered domestic relations mediator, a trained Guardian Ad Litem, and a Parenting Coordinator in Indiana. She focuses on assisting families in reducing conflict and resolving disputes outside of court. Jessica knows from personal and professional experience the legal, financial, and emotional challenges that families face when deciding to divorce. When children are involved, these challenges can continue when dealing with child custody issues, parenting time, and child support. Because of this, she helps clients focus on their long-term interests. She believes that interest-based negotiations generally lead to better results and can keep clients in control of outcomes.
Jessica is a member of the Florida Bar, Indiana State Bar Association, and International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
